Africa Kenya Beach Bay Hotel - (5) Five Star Kenya Bay Hotel Watamu

Turtle Bay Beach Hotel

The turtle bay Kenya hotel in Watamu is an all inclusive hotel lodge located on the north coast of Mombasa. The turtle bay in Watamu is near other hotels in Kenya’s Watamu beach including leisure lodge Kenya, blue bay Kenya, Watamu villas, Hemingway’s Kenya. Watamu beach is famous for water sports including deep sea/big game fishing, diving Kenya in Watamu Marine national park.

Turtle Bay Beach Club

Turtle Bay is a larger family-style hotel which operates on an all-inclusive resort system similar to club Med. Included are meals, snacks, most drinks and a range of sporting activities(water sports as well as tennis, mini golf, etc). This hotel is appealing for its relaxed ambience, its range of activities for families, and the pleasantly shaded area overlooking the beach and ocean.

The focal point of the hotel is the pool area. The large rectangular pool has a diving board. To the side, and sheltered by makuti thatch, are table tennis, darts and snooker. There is also a giant chess set with wooden African Playing pieces. A thatched bar and restaurant at poolside serves a snack and a la carte menu. It is open-sided and has views of the ocean through a stand of palms trees. Stretching from the pool to the beach is an area well-shaded by mature palms and other indigenous trees where guests can lie on padded lounge chairs placed on the sand. There are pleasant sea breezes, lovely views of the beach and ocean and shelter from the hot sun.

The hotel is built on a slope-there are winding paths and series of wide cement steps. Low-rise accommodation blocks are reached through tropical gardens vivid with bougainvillea. Some rooms have good ocean views, but most are set further back, only glimpsing the sea through palm trees. The main dining area is open to gardens and fish ponds-but has no sea view or breezes.

The food tends to be rather unremarkable-generous safari buffets predominate. There is evening entertainment ranging from bingo nights in the large and rather functional lobby lounge to acrobatic performances around the pool with the night sky and waving palms for an added touch of the exotic.

Children (ages4-12) can join the children’s mini Club with various activities and programs (videos, swimming, painting etc) under supervision.

Water activities at Turtle Bay include windsurfing and scuba diving. Glass bottomed boats make the short trip out to the Marine Park for snorkeling. There is now an expert who will accompany you on your snorkeling trips, pointing out and explaining points of interest as you swim along.

The Kenya Beach hotel is popular with families and is also booked by European tour groups-predominantly Germans.

Accommodations

There are 154 rooms, all with private balconies, ceiling fans and ensuite bathrooms. Most rooms are in fairly large low-rise white structures. There are also deluxe rooms which are somewhat larger and newer. These rooms are in smaller thatched three story units. Best sea view Rooms # 43, 44 and 45. Beach blocks # 1-5.

You can also decide to arrange an inland animal safari to Kenya’s Tsavo National Park from the Turtle Bay Beach Club. These range from 2-5 day flying or road safari. The Tsavo safari can especially be extended to cover both Tsavo East and West and Amboseli National Park. The drive to Tsavo has to pass through the Mombasa town via Voi into Tsavo East or West due to Smart card requirements at the gates.
